Mom - An offer for your consideration…
So here we are, you and me, Mom and Son. I am not there for Mother’s Day, and neither is Dad. We are out, out on a job working in the City of LA, but I am there in spirit, in mind, in intention. Do you know I love you Mom? I do, just in case you did not know, I do love you. I love you for being Dad’s wife, for being a Teacher, and for being around to always help with every little thing that needs tending or mending.
So here is a deal, on this Mother’s Day upcoming, I promise to be there for you. In the years that follow, supposing I don’t die, I will be around to water your plants, mow your lawn, feed your cats, vacuum your house, help wash the dishes and cook, clean and wash the cars, and help where help is needed. This is the promise. That is the deal.
I grew up watching something special. I learned a neat thing early on, and I saw it in the people I love, in the people I respect the most. Do you know who those people are and what that thing they did was? It was you, Dad, Bob, Deb, Rick, Jan, Pam, Reg, and all the family like them whom took such good care of their Mothers and Fathers. Some of them are even still doing it today.
This special thing, taking care of your folks as it were, is something I planned on doing from an early age. I always knew I would be there to help you out, not because of necessity or guilt, but because I wanted to do it. I knew that then, and I know it more now. You can rest easy knowing that I won’t disappear on you, and I will always hangout and help you with all of your tech needs 😉.
Basically, thank you for being more than a Mother. Most mothers raise their young and kick them out to find their own way. We as humans have this special thing going, some sort of tit for tat, and I like it. You took care of me so well, so much love, so much attention. You were the one that always rocked me to sleep, helped build my dreams no matter what they were. You let me buy and raise snakes and lizards for God’s sake. No one does that, no one, expect you my sweet Mother; the one formerly known as Lauren Lee Longchamp, the triple L, L.L.L., Laurie Kramer, AKA Laurence, Mrs. Kramer…so many names, but only one fits for me; MOM.
FYI and considered to be a little well known fact, I can thank you for my Wife too. Yes, when she saw how you and I got along, she knew that she could live with me, and knew that she would have a friend to visit with when I was away. You helped me to be good enough to marry my wife, and showed me the way to better. Whenever times have been hard, you have always been there, supported me, and stood me up to face the world. Now it is my turn to do the same for you. I love you Mom. Happy Mother’s Day.
