Gideon Orrick Kramer – “Rooster”
He is strong and lean, Gid-the-kid, tough as they come. I love this kid, and today he is six years old. Happy birthday to the one and only; my guitar partner, toy gun maker, and fisherman friend. We spend our days laughing and playing, hanging out, riding the 4 wheelers, hiking the mountains, eating ice cream and pie. I am his Daddy Daniel, and he is my G>O>K, because everything is going to be OK if you’re with Gid-the-kid.
But there are things to say, things that I must tell you about Gideon. He doesn’t stop short of the finish line, and he cares about you. I will never forget his super strong hug, and his smile and big blue eyes. He has white hair, like a silver fox, or a golden goose, the rarest of rare, a diamond in the rough. He is the kind of guy that will help you when you’re down and protect you at all cost.
Gideon is not afraid. He would take on the Bully at the playground, and I know because I have seen it. He will take a stance for what is right, and like John Wayne, he has cowboy skills. Gideon will give the bad guy a “fair trial, and a good hanging”, and he follows the rules. He makes sure not to let the cougars or the coyotes in, he watches with his staff on guard for all evil spirits. Like Master Shifu, he wields his power with skill and grace. There is no doubt that you are in the care of a great protector when Gideon is around.
He helps his grandpa and grandpa, works to rake the leaves, helps to mow the lawn, and builds in the barn. He is learning so much; reading and writing, arithmetic too, but more than that he is a spiritual being from another time and place. More of a Knight or King from the days of the round table, with chivalry and style. A real man, yet he is only six.
What will he do with his life? What will Gideon become? Where will he live, and whom will he marry? How will it be when he is older? So many things yet to be, doors to open, experiences to live. What an amazing and exciting time it will be.
I am hopeful, and I am proud. I am amazed and stunned by his ability. I am grateful just to spend a few minutes by his side. My son, an amazing buddy, the “kid”. He will have so many adventures, so many times, I am certain of that. To the one, the only, my super buddy.
May your day be great and grand, may it be happy and bright, may the world know you and get a chance to see you shimmer. For you are my boy, my sweet son, and I love you. I will always love you, and I will always be there to give you hugs and kisses, hunt the mountains, fish the rivers, and hike the valleys with. Whether I am alive or not, whether I am near or far, I promise you this; Daddy Daniel will always be looking over you with a smile and open heart.
Happy B-day Gidster…Love Daddie-O
